Choices

I suspect some of you are like me: there's more than one thing you want to be when you grow up, but you only have this one life. If you'd list the things you'd like to be and do, and then prioritize them, where on that list does your current set of life choices fall? What's preventing you from following the first choice on the list? The past is the past, and we all get to enjoy the good times and learn from the bad ones... but today is the present, the doorway to the future. Choose today, not based on where you've been or where you feel you have to be, but start planning for where you want to be. It's as easy (and as hard) as that (for the record, I'm a lazy coward, so I will not be taking my own advice; but for the rest of you, live boldly!)

Money's a good barrier (just like "lack of Olympic ability" is acceptable for "why someone's not a professional athlete"), but I guess I was thinking of the innumerable small steps we can make in our lives towards the vision we want (my hypothetical athlete could set aside some sacred time in her schedule to engage in a neighborhood version of her chosen sport.)

I realize that it's not the case that, in the Real World, we can do ANYTHING we want. But I suspect (and, for myself, KNOW) that there are a lot of things I don't do that I'd like to do because (a) I'm lazy and (b) I'm afraid of failure. I was mostly writing the post as an exhortation to myself... it may not be applicable to those who are doing everything they profess to want to in so far as Reality permits.)

Live Boldly...! You know what, that is sound advice. The past really is the past, and we might as well live in the present as we really never do know if we are going to have a future.

SO... In the spirit of living boldly in the present, hoping for the brightest of futures... I would like to take to opportunity to announce that Mormon Girl and I, just about one and a half hours ago, were joined a second time in marriage…as we decided not to live for the future, but to start living the present!

Anyone else care to join us in living boldly?

But what if where you want to be causes havoc and turmoil for everyone around you?

Thanks for the congrats Winter and Dodo...!

Dodo, if you find yourself where you want to be, even though it may be causing havoc and turmoil...

Embrace the turmoil like an old friend, and revel in the havoc knowing that you are riding a grand moment in your life...

That way, those around you can ground themselves, using you as an anchor, and ride along with you…

I turn my back on the net for two days and everything changes! Morgan and Mormon Girl (does she get the last name "2112" now, as well?): I am so freaking happy for both of you!!! Live boldly? Looks like y'all are taking that to heart.

Dodo, sometimes embracing the turmoil is the right path, sometimes the turmoil is a bigger price than any sane soul should be willing to pay (but only you can make that call...)

Winter, afraid?!? I find that doubtful in the soul that criss-crossed the country in an aging pile of metal. Well, whatever your non-career goals are, I'll pray for open doors and courage for you!
